How to create a visually impactful car
- Decide on a style or theme. Focus on cars that you have seen and aspire to own. GT style? Bell bottom drift? Outrageous or subtle? Slammed or functional? Combine styles, but be able to clearly articulate the style you want.
2) Study other examples of styles you are after. Zoom in, pay attention to details. Trim colors, wheel style + fitment, lighting, etc. Nothing is more important then the details that tie everything together. Which is the opposite of where people go so wrong …
3) Don’t design the car around an obvious superficial part of another car(s). Simply buying a giant GT wing or eccentric livery are not well thought out styles. Those are details of style execution, not the reason you like someone’s car.
4) Balance is key. Bigger is not always better. Maximum is usually not more. Minimum is rarely style.
5) Craft a story about what you are trying to create with your machine. What are you trying to say. How do you want to use the car. And how do you want others to perceive your creation. (Trying to piss off the haters, is usually not a successful strategy.)
6) Consider economic priority of parts. Beautiful machines are expensive and take time. Even more so if they are functional machines with track duty. Work within your budget by keeping things simple if necessary. “Stock to full blown GT is a process.”- Derek Bianski
7) Try to use quality parts. There are many exceptions, but cheap/knockoff parts come with a risk of destroying the outcome. Poor fitment, inferior finishes, and lack of detail have a bigger effect then expected. Plus, quality parts spark joy that makes this all worth it.
